Case Study 04 · Personal empowerment & Career Restoration
A Peer Recovery
Thirty years in prison provided more than a state of emotional instability for Kisha. It also stagnated any option for a career pathway forward. Fair Chance's role was destined to start with the very basics when first approached by Kisha and told, "there is nothing you can do form me." Fair Chance put Kisha through its Personal Empowerment Course without then consulting her regarding career opportunities. We targeted an option for her to become a Peer Recovery Specialist.

The challenge
We had to raise the self-esteem and self-acceptance of someone whose career ambitions were also incarcerated. We helped engrain the notion that her traumas were now skills that could empower her and so many others. Kisha's pain and suffering of the past were now the very resources she needed to empathize and influence her own clientele, moving forward.
How Fair Chance helped
- Empowerment of the individual
- Transformation of traumas into opportunities
- Sourcing a career pathway
- Consulting a career ambition
- Providing inroads , advising, and recommending
The outcome
Kisha is in the process of becoming state-certified within her new career as a Peer Recovery Specialist
"(Kisha wrote a poem for Fair Chance Executive Director, Kathy McIntyre)"
